Spring 2016 Due Diligence and Sourcing Projects

This semester students are conducting sourcing and due diligence projects with 5 firms: Stripes Group, New Dominion AngelsNewGen Venture Partners, Cav Angels, and Plug and Play Tech Center.

Students will work directly with these firms to source companies according to mutually agreed upon themes as well as conduct due diligence on sourced and inbound opportunities. Students will have access to a VVF mentor who will manage each project and provide advice to the students.

This semester we are also happy to continue our partnership with New Dominion Angels and send a few students up to their screening meeting in D.C. to meet the Angel investors in the group and help conduct due diligence on the companies presenting during and after the meeting.

Fall 2015 Intra-University Virginia Venture Cup

We had over 60 students, including two student startups from UVA (CloudClub and Phoenix Aid) participate in the second annual Intra-University Virginia Venture Cup. A team consisting of analysts from VVF including Jacob Suh, Ori Shimony, David Hu, and Spenser Gilliand as well as a few other students won the competition. We plan to hold the third annual Virginia Venture Cup in fall 2016.

The  Virginia Venture Fund (VVF) is excited to be hosting  the 2nd Annual Intra‐University
Virginia Venture Cup, a venture capital investment competition for undergraduates. Teams of students are challenged to think like venture capitalists in evaluating  three early stage investment opportunities in startup companies, conduct due diligence in private Q&A sessions with each company, and negotiate a term sheet live with the entrepreneur they select to invest in. The competition is designed to replicate a compressed version of the venture  capital deal process; as such, teams are evaluated based on the quality of their due diligence, investment decision, and term sheet negotiation from the perspective of an investor.

Fall 2015 Due Diligence and Sourcing Projects

We will be working with Anthos Capital, UpData PartnersNew Dominion Angels, and the Felton Group (Jaffray Woodriff's family office) in fall 2015. These projects will give students real world experience sourcing and conducting due diligence on companies for some of the most respected firms in their respective areas of expertise.

Students will have a dedicated mentor at each firm and (often times) present their findings at the end of the project. Depending on firm needs and performance select students will have the opportunity to participate in short internships with the firms that they worked with throughout the semester at the end of the projects.

Feel free to email Ripley Carroll at rbc7aa@virginia.edu if you are interested in being involved with these projects. More information and a formal application will be released sooner to the start dates in early-mid September.
